Why do some platforms hold customer data and funds?

In a Merchant of Record model, the platform legally processes the transaction, so it must collect customer data and receive payment. It then pays you after deducting its fees. This creates cash flow delays and means the platform, not you, owns the customer relationship. Swap's model avoids this entirely.
