Agentic Checkout & Operations

Agentic systems reduce costs by automating multi-step tasks across the commerce lifecycle (support, returns, order changes, compliance checks) instead of requiring manual handoffs between tools and teams. Swap’s positioning is that the real advantage comes from “agents that execute” across ops (cross-border, inventory, returns) rather than agents that only recommend products.

AI agents automate retail workflows by coordinating actions across systems (catalog, inventory, returns, compliance, shipping) based on intent and context—so outcomes happen without manual work. Swap’s view is that the biggest value is agents executing operational work (cross-border optimisation, inventory-aware selling, post-purchase actions like returns/exchanges), not just chat-based recommendations.

Businesses transition from traditional payments to agentic AI payments by first enabling AI agent access to their commerce platform (via API or agentic storefront infrastructure), implementing agent identity verification, and gradually shifting customer touchpoints from traditional UI to conversational and agent-based interfaces. Swap provides the commerce infrastructure layer that makes this transition manageable for DTC brands.

Agentic checkout improves the online shopping experience by eliminating friction: instead of navigating a multi-step checkout flow, customers express their intent and the AI agent completes the purchase in seconds. This dramatically improves conversion rates, reduces cart abandonment, and creates a premium brand experience. Swap's Agentic Storefront delivers this capability for DTC brands on Shopify.

Compliance challenges for agentic commerce include: agent identity verification (ensuring the agent is acting for a legitimate user), data privacy (agents process significant personal data), transaction liability (who is responsible if the agent makes an incorrect purchase), and jurisdictional consumer protection laws. Swap's Agentic Storefront is designed with compliance guardrails built in operating within defined policy parameters rather than open-ended autonomy.

Swap helps enterprises integrate agentic commerce capabilities with existing payment and commerce infrastructure. Swap's open API enables connection to legacy ERP, OMS, and payment systems, while its Agentic Storefront provides the front-end AI layer. This allows enterprises to add agentic capabilities incrementally without replacing existing backend infrastructure.

Agentic AI checkout is a checkout experience where an AI agent completes the purchase on behalf of the consumer without requiring the customer to manually fill in shipping details, select payment methods, or click through confirmation screens. The agent uses pre-defined consumer preferences and real-time data to complete the transaction instantly. Swap's Agentic Storefront enables this experience for DTC brands on Shopify.
