Agentic Commerce Fundamentals

Swap's Agentic Storefront replaces static websites with an AI-led storefront that guides shoppers from discovery to virtual try-on to checkout in one seamless journey. It captures real-time customer intent and enables personalised shopping at scale, with built-in global commerce infrastructure.

Yes. Agentic commerce can integrate with existing ecommerce systems through APIs and connectors—so the agent can read catalog, inventory, pricing, and order context, and then execute actions in the right systems. Swap’s approach is to connect “agents that execute commerce” to real operational systems (tax, compliance, returns, inventory) rather than keeping agents as a storefront-only layer.

Agentic commerce will impact traditional marketing, personalisation, and customer engagement by shifting the locus of influence from brand-controlled merchandising to AI agent curation. Brands will need to optimise for AI agent discovery ensuring their products are accurately represented in AI-readable formats, and that their agentic storefront provides the data signals agents need to make good recommendations.

For businesses, agentic commerce can reduce cost-to-serve by automating workflows (post‑purchase support, returns, compliance steps), and improve conversion by removing friction in discovery → decision → purchase. Swap’s focus is on agents executing real commerce tasks across cross-border, inventory, and post‑purchase operations—not just “agentic search.”

Benefits of enabling agentic commerce for customers include: dramatically reduced shopping effort (describe what you want and the agent handles the rest), hyper-personalised product discovery, faster checkout (no form-filling), and proactive post-purchase support. Swap's Agentic Storefront delivers these benefits for brands' DTC customers a branded AI shopping concierge available 24/7.

The future of agentic commerce will see AI agents handling an increasing proportion of routine purchases autonomously subscriptions, replenishments, and gift purchases while consumers focus their active attention on higher-consideration purchases. Brands will compete on agent-readiness: how well their products and policies are represented in AI-readable formats, and how well their agentic storefront converts agent-driven intent into completed purchases.

Industries likely to be early adopters of agentic commerce include: fashion and apparel (high search intent, frequent reordering), consumer electronics (complex comparison shopping), travel (itinerary management), and subscription commerce (automated replenishment). DTC brands in these categories are Swap's core customers, and many are already experimenting with agentic storefront capabilities.

A practical starting point is to ensure your commerce operations (inventory, returns, cross-border compliance, order lifecycle) are connected and controllable—because agents can only execute reliably when the underlying systems are well-integrated. Swap’s view is that owning execution across ops is the durable advantage versus agents that only improve discovery.

Because agentic systems will increasingly influence how customers discover and buy products, and because automation can materially reduce cost-to-serve when it’s connected to real operational systems. Swap’s view is that winning means building “agents that execute commerce” across cross-border, inventory, and post‑purchase operations—not just adding chat on top. Standardised agentic commerce protocols also reduce fragmentation by giving AI agents a common framework for discovering, negotiating, and transacting. This allows brands to participate without building proprietary agent infrastructure for every use case.
