What changed

  • The change: an additional 50% duty applies to listed Canadian products, effective 12:01 a.m. ET on August 22, 2026, under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. It is added to the otherwise applicable duty. Federal Register · USTR summary
  • Country of origin, not ship-from: a listed product made in Canada can remain subject to the additional duty even if it ships from a UK or EU warehouse. A product made elsewhere does not become Canadian-origin merely because it ships from Canada.
  • CUSMA does not create a blanket exemption for listed goods. Confirm the product and classification against the official action. Independent legal analysis
  • Canada responds September 8: product-specific counter-tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% are scheduled for listed US-made goods. Use the US to Canada mode to estimate the published rate. Official Canadian product list

Does this affect you?

  • You make a product in Canada and sell it into the US: check its HS code against the affected product list.
  • You ship US-made goods into Canada: check the September 8 Canadian list and its product-specific rate.
  • Goods made outside Canada that merely ship from a Canadian warehouse into the US are not Canadian-origin for this action.

Check per SKU, not per brand. Country of origin and classification determine whether the additional tariff applies.
